Katrina Relief
Efforts in Branson
September
12, 2005
During this time of urgent need in our country, we here at the
Hamner Barber Theater are doing what we can to provide assistance
to the evacuees and victims of Hurricane Katrina. We are working
hand in hand with our local Salvation Army chapter who regularly
provide emergency assistance to victims of flood, major disasters
and to needy local residents.
The Branson Salvation
Army is currently providing support to over 200 families displaced
by the disaster and more families are on the way for temporary
or long term assistance. Dave Hamner has personally entertained
at the local shelter and shared tears and laughter with many
of the displaced families who are looking for direction in their
uprooted lives.
Many of these families
have attended our Hamner Barber Variety Show at our invitation
and have told us they appreciated so much the chance to laugh
a little and take their minds off the stress that they have
been living with since the storm hit the coast.
The red Salvation
Army kettle that is usually seen at Christmas time has also
been hung in our theater lobby to receive donations from those
able to give. Our theater patrons have been incredible in their
support and we thank all who have given generously to this cause.
There are many more
efforts underway in the Branson area to provide additional support
to this important and urgent cause. The 'Branson Cares' Concert
and Telethon, produced by the League of Branson Theater Owners
and Show Producers is set for Sunday, September 18 at the Tri-Lakes
Center on Hwy. 248 at 7 pm and features many of Branson's most
famous celebrity entertainers. The show will be broadcast live
by Springfield NBC affiliate KY3 from 8-10 p.m. Central Time.
The Branson Cares Benefit will be available via satellite for
broadcast from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. by stations throughout the
Midwest. KY3 has graciously donated the equipment, labor, and
the satellite services for this event.
On Sunday, September
25th the Central Pro-Am Bass Fishing Tournament Official Weigh-In
will be presented during the intermission of the Hamner Barber
Variety Show at the Hamner Barber Theater in Branson. Show time
is 3 pm and hundreds of tickets are being sold in benefit of
the Branson area Salvation Army as well as other charities in
the area. This is a fun and entertaining event that will later
be aired on Fox Sports Net Midwest.
We appreciate the
opportunity to share the news of all the exciting events happening
here in Branson to assist these families in need and urge you
to do what you can as well.
Thank you and God
Bless from everyone at the Hamner Barber Theater.
