The Plummer Family Show was one of the first and most popular Branson music shows having opened their own theatre in May 1973.  Darrell and Rosie along with their son, Randy, and daughter, Melody performed for 18 years until retirement.  Rosie and Darrell have been acknowledged in many ways for their exceptional talent as country music performers. Rosie was presented the first prestigious “Show Biz Award” in 1984 at the Ozark Music Awards. Both Darrell and Rosie have been inducted in to the “Ozark Hall of Fame.”

Last Ounce of Courage is the inspirational story of a small town Mayor and decorated Vietnam veteran who is jolted into the realization by his grandson that through the years he has grown apathetic as the freedoms that he and others fought and died for are being taken away one by one. His decision to act inspires others to join him to begin taking back those freedoms, each in their own way. As the various plots unfold, the viewer is drawn to questions of freedom and sacrifice, especially in the face of political correctness.

Last Ounce of Courage inspires audiences to take a stand for what you believe through personal reconciliation and unconditional love.

The film is produced by VERITAS Communications, Inc. and was directed by Darrel Campbell and Kevin McAfee, who will both be attending this special pre-release viewing at the Hamner Barber Theater on Saturday morning along with others involved with the film.

Hosting the show is comedy magician Denny Haney, of Baltimore, MD. Denny has had a long, successful career entertaining in the college and corporate fields. Denny’s brand of magic will have you laughing so hard, you may not even realize the magical skills hiding underneath the comedy.

Denny will introduce a stellar lineup of stars. First is the husband and wife magical duo of Stoil & Ekaterina. Originally from Bulgaria, they came to America in 1998, and make their home in Los Angeles. Stoil has won numerous magic awards, and Ekaterina is a former ballerina. Together, they present a high energy act filled with colorful magic and several quick change effects.

Dan Stapleton presents a high class style of magic. You may have seen him recently, on America’s Got Talent. Dan was a successful cruise ship entertainer and cruise director for 25 years. He lives in Florida, and is constantly in demand performing in the Orlando resort field.

For a touch of variety, ventriloquist Mark Wade will be showcasing his amazing vocal magic. Mark, from Columbus, OH, has a cast of colorful characters to tickle your funny bone. Mark has toured across America as an opening act for such headliners as Garth Brooks, Marie Osmond, Reba McIntire, Mel Tillis and many others.

TV Hosts Gene Williams and Dalena Ditto

Award-winning country music singer Dalena Ditto has been hired as the new co-host of the nationally syndicated Gene Williams Country Television Show sponsored by Lucas Oil products.  The program can be viewed on over 100 stations across the United States and Canada.

Dalena, who has performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, will be opening her 10th season as a headliner in Branson, Missouri on April 19th at the Hamner Barber Theater on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway.

Her musical styling and great sense of humor is a perfect fit to co-host the show with Gene Williams. Each time she has appeared on the program the viewers at home have responded with rave reviews; a good indication that the entertainer who was once first runner up in the Miss Iowa – Miss America Pageant would be most welcome as a regular on the show.

A broadcast journalism and music major at Iowa State University, Dalena started a television career as morning anchor and evening beat reporter for ABC affiliate WOI-TV in Des Moines.

It is no wonder she is at ease in front of a TV camera. Her television appearances include the Grand Ole Opry, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Vacation Channel, “The Penny Gilley Show” on RFD-TV and “On The Road with Al Rocker” on the Food Channel. The soft-hearted Dalena volunteers for veteran related events in Branson and throughout the United States. She is a featured entertainer and co-host of Variety, the Children’s Charity Telethon in Iowa and Missouri.

Gene Williams, the star and creator of the television show, used his TV knowledge to promote talent in Branson, MO. Williams began his career in 1957 as a country music deejay in Memphis, TN on KWAM. He was named Grand Ole Opry’s DJ of the Year in 1961 and made two country music movies that featured more than 39 Grand Ole Opry stars including Ray Price, Carl Smith, Kitty Wells, Little Jimmy Dickens, Marty Robbins, Webb Pierce, Ernest Tubb, June Carter, Bill Monroe and Faron Young. Williams is an inductee to the Memphis Music Hall of Fame and has been honored by the Missouri Senate and the State of Arkansas for his contributions to the tourism industry.

Dalena Ditto opens her 2011 live-performance season on April 19 at the Hamner Barber Theater.  She will also perform at The Second Annual Gene Williams Open House, a special FREE event Williams is hosting April 29-May 1 in Dyess, AR.

Comedian ventriloquist Jim Barber (Hamner Barber Variety Show) put down his dummy and picked up his mojo as he and his professional dance partner Ashley Gadd (Shoji Tabuchi Show) volunteered their time and talents as contestants in front of the full-house audience at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theatre.  While Jim and Ashley didn’t walk away with the large mirror ball trophy, they did have a great time and presented an entertaining routine (despite a very noticeable wardrobe malfunction seen in the video clip below).

The coveted Champion Mirror Ball trophy went to Bill Tirone of The Hilton Convention Center and his professional partner Jody Kosterlitz from the Shoji Tabuchi Show. The award was presented by Branson Mayor Raeanne Presely along with, Producer and host of the show, Bob Nichols. The real winners of the night were the children of our community who will benefit from the more than $13,400 which is projected to have been raised from the night of fun and entertainment.

Jeff will bring an entirely new dimension of entertainment to Dalena’s already superb production of timeless classic country and gospel music.  Not only is Jeff considered one of the top singing impressionists in the country, he has earned a national reputation as a voice over artist and radio announcer including spending 10 years as the “Voice of the Ozarks” on Branson’s Home Town Radio KRZK – 106.5 FM.  He was an announcer for The Beach Boys and a regular on the Penny Gilley Show, both live and nationally televised on RFD-TV.  His voice has been featured on numerous national television and radio commercials.

Jeff and his wife Gina have called Branson home since moving here in 1990.  After 28 years of marriage, they are enjoying the peaceful lifestyle of living in the Ozarks while keeping a very busy performance schedule.  Settling in Branson is especially nice for this talented couple after spending many years entertaining audiences across the country in Jeff’s original show band called Galaxy.

From Branson to Las Vegas and Back!

Jeff has co-starred in several Branson shows over the years, from the popular Jennifer In The Morning and Doug Gabriel shows, to the high-energy Wayne Newton show which featured Jeff’s amazing vocal talents for 13 years both in Branson and Las Vegas.  Wayne loved having Jeff as part of his show so much, that Jeff even moved to Las Vegas for 8 years to work with Wayne and that’s where he earned the nickname, “The Voice.”

Hamner Barber Theater’s own Jim Barber will return as this year’s Master of Ceremonies along with his sidekick, famed illusionist Dave Hamner, who is also returning to judge the great and not-so-great acts that will be competing.

Last year’s Gong Show was a smash success, but how could it not be with the volunteer efforts of several fearless performers, three wacky judges, two beautiful “hoopa” girls, one sparkling scorekeeper, a wonderful warm-up man, and a crazy comedian host.

Harry & Carolyn Watterson are the producers of the Branson Gong Show and together, they have created one of the most entertaining benefit shows ever to reverberate the Live Music Show Capital of the World.

Christine Thompson, Director of the Branson Senior Center for whom the charity event is staged, reported that last year’s show was a huge success not only for the great audience turnout, but also for the “Meals on Wheels” program that they sponsor. The 2010 Branson Gong Show netted around $4,000 with proceeds going to the various programs through the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging.

“We had such a great crowd, it was just awesome. It was sort of like a wedding in that we did all this planning and practicing, and it was over in a flash. Those funds will help so many programs for seniors, not only in this area, but all over Southwest Missouri.”

Branson Gong Show Host: Jim Barber

Celebrity host Jim Barber will keep things flowing and sooth the fragile emotions of the unfortunate performers who may hear the smashing of the gong, generously donated for use at the event by Reliable Toyota of Springfield, Missouri.

Speaking of Jim Barber, the guy did a smooth job of keeping all the zanies at bay and keeping the show moving at a good pace. We had thought the show would run long, however, after beginning at 6:49pm, the Gong Show concluded about 9:15pm.

The other two celebrity judges returning to join Dave Hamner are the amazing impressionist Bob Anderson, and the multi-talented singer, guitarist and impersonator George Trullinger from Legends in Concert.

Those judges by the way… had an unenviable task of judging and gonging some of the acts. Don’t ever ask this writer to be a gong show judge. I just couldn’t do it. Incidentally, the “gong” used for the show was donated by Reliable Toyota. Barber was quick to point out that when the gong was hit, it just kept on going.

The beautiful Branson area entertainer and comedy ventriloquist Patty Davidson will be keeping score as one by one, the talented (and not-so-talented) performers take their turn on stage. The incredible vocal impressionist Jeff Brandt will be serving as this year’s celebrity announcer.

Last year, the winners clearly stood out from a few of the strange and wonderful gong-worthy acts. At times, the crowd jeered the judges to take a swing at even some of the better acts, yet when the smoke cleared there were three winners. This year’s competition promises to be even bigger and better.

Be sure to put this event on your MUST DO LIST for this Wednesday evening in Branson!
