At a press conference held at the Hamner Barber Theater today, Dave Hamner announced several major changes in store for the popular entertainment venue next year.
In January 2014 the venue will be renamed the Hamner Variety Theater and will be home to five shows playing a full schedule Monday through Sunday beginning March 11th. The show line-up includes The Hamner’s Unbelievable Variety Show (Tues, Wed, Thur, Sat 8pm, and Sun 3pm), Tom Mullica as Red Skelton… The Legend Continues (select mornings throughout the year), The Fair Family (select mornings throughout the year), The Magnificent Variety Show starring Joe & Tamara Tinoco (Fri, Sun, Mon 8pm), and The Music of Patsy Cline Remembered starring C.J. Newsom (afternoons thoughout the season).
The Hamner’s Unbelievable Variety Show will feature World renowned illusionists Dave and Denise Hamner, singing impressionist Jeff Brandt, featured vocalist Tamra Tinoco, Russian Acrobatic Adagio Dance Pair Vadim & Mariya Serykh, comedian Lex Pearson, ventriloquist Brenda Hahne, choreographer and dancer A.J. Heard, and assistant choreographer and dancer Ken Brown. In addition to the current technical staff, the Hamners have also recruited famed Las Vegas based magician Johnny Thompson to work as the new show director.
Dave and Denise Hamner have headlined many major production shows around the world, presenting their award winning and original feats of magic. Venues include not only Las Vegas, Disneyland and Hollywood’s famous “Magic Castle,” but also Branson where they starred in the productions Branson City All Star Revue and Magic of the Night. For the past ten years they have co-owned and co-produced the Hamner Barber Variety Show.
They have received the prestigious “Magic Masters Award” by their magical peers in Las Vegas, Siegfried and Roy personally honored the Hamners by presenting them with their “Bronze Lion Head Award” for performance excellence.
The Hamners are best known for their one of a kind act in which they produce several beautiful Macaws and Cockatoos that appear amid flying cards, flaming swords, falling coins and jewels. The birds then perform an incredible flight over and around the audience before gracefully returning to the stage. Other original illusions include Stargate, The Lightning Levitation, Vertigo: The Fall of Death, Secrets of the Lost Ark Revealed, and the magical finale to their Veteran’s tribute, “Thank You’s Not Enough.”
Jeff Brandt is considered one of the top singing impressionists in the country. Jeff has co-starred in several Branson shows over the years, from the popular Jennifer In The Morning and Doug Gabriel shows, to the high-energy Wayne Newton show which featured Jeff’s amazing vocal talents for 13 years both in Branson and Las Vegas. Wayne loved having Jeff as part of his show so much, that Jeff even moved to Las Vegas for 8 years to work with Wayne and that’s where he earned the nickname, “The Voice.” Among Jeff’s other accomplishments are two appearances on NBC’s “Tonight Show,” a featured spot on the TV show “Las Vegas,” two featured film appearances in “Vegas Vacation” and “Smoking Aces,” performances at the White House in Washington DC, and the National Republican Convention. Add to those impressive credits 8 overseas tours for the USO entertaining troops in Kuwait, Italy, Iraq, the Persian Gulf, Korea, Hungary, Kosovo, Centcom, Bosnia and you’ve got a well rounded performer who has not only paid his dues and earned his credits, but also took the time to give back to our military troops who protect the freedoms that we Americans enjoy in our country
Tamra Tinoco is from Springfield, MO. She has a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Kansas City Conservatory of Music. She has performed all over the world and in 45 different states. She has produced shows such as “Magnificent Country,” “Today’s Country,” “Showcase Jubilee”, and currently the “Magnificent Variety Show.” Tamra has performed with artists such as Lee Greenwood, Vince Gill, John Davidson, Jim Stafford, and Ferlin Husky. She was Porter Waggoner’s guest star on the Grand Ole Opry.
Father and daughter Vadim & Mariya Serykh have been performing hand balancing adagio at Cirque Montage for the past two years. Mariya’s first appearance on stage was when she was just 4 years old with her parents on the Showboat Branson Belle and has performed ever since in numerous events and production throughout the country. Mariya is a natural when it comes to acrobatics but more so as a dancer in Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Jazz. Mariya was a competitive dancer and used her agility to learn how to soar through the air as an aerialist and to be flipped upside in sport acrobatics. She has also had the honor of winning the title of National and World Champion in dance. Vadim began training in acrobatic arts at the age of 11. His excellence earned him the title of Master of Sport of Soviet Union. He is “Recognized Honored Artist of the Russian Federation” recognizing that he is among the very best and most talented in their field of performance.
Lex Pearson is the House Magician/Illusion manager/comedian. Lex has appeared with the Hamners in Magic of the Night show. He has also appeared with Jim Stafford, The Duttons, and the last 7 years with the Hamner Barber Variety Show. Lex has been a featured artist in Mexican resorts Dreams, Secrets, Now, and Sunscape. Lex has appeared in the movies, “Surrendered” The Movie, and “Broken Faith”. You will be amazed with his close-up magic. You won’t believe your eyes as he performs incredible tricks of the trade using cards, ropes, coins and more.
Brenda Hahne and her cast of characters have been entertaining audiences for over 15 years. Not only a ventriloquist, Brenda is also a magician’s assistant, having worked side-by-side with her magician husband Marty since they were married in 1983. Besides performing for hundreds of family audiences across the country, Brenda has also entertained on seven different cruise ships, and internationally in New Zealand and Singapore. Originally from Ohio, Brenda makes her home in Ozark, MO.
Choreographer and dancer AJ Heard grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, where she started taking dance and ice skating lessons at the age of 3. As her career began to take shape, her love of dance moved into the forefront and, at the age of 14, she began training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. At 17, she moved away from home, traveled to Toronto and joined a professional training program at the highly regarded, Randolph Dance Theater. While living in Toronto she performed in many music videos, trade shows, and commercials, as well as well as a few Canadian produced feature films. She was hired by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a lead dancer in their multimillion dollar variety shows and this is where she met her husband, Bucky. AJ has performed and choreographed for a variety of shows including, The VanBurch and Welford Show, Branson City All Star Revue, Cracklin Rose – A Tribute to Neil Diamond, and Jimmy Osmonds American Jukebox. She has also choreographed for superstars, Pam Tillis, Neil McCoy, and Les Brown, as well as many others. AJ is the choreographer/ dance captain for the Hamner Barber Variety Show. AJ and her husband also created and produced Rock U Mentally LIVE. She not only choreographed the entire show, she also served as costume designer, prop master, and marketing director.
Assistant choreographer and Dance Captain Ken Brown grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also worked along side The Hamners in Jimmy Osmond’s American Jukebox. Affectionately referred to by the cast as “Downtown Kenny Brown,” Ken is a multi-talented entertainer and gives 110% to every performance.
Technical Director Paul Linden has been active in consulting and design with holography, laser systems, video projection systems and theater lighting and automation since 1973, when he constructed the first holographic studio for the University of Kansas. He has devoted his career to creating and applying technical innovations to the field of entertainment. This has included innovations in video presentation formats as well as early development of automated projection systems for 70mm film. He pioneered laser video projection systems and is inventor of 2 patents for laser video projection. His early innovations spurred the further development of video projection techniques that are now common in current theatrical stage productions. His technical skills have been demonstrated in international shows for everyone from Heads of State to Heads of Fortune 500 companies and International Art Exhibits. His work has entertained audiences as small as 40 and as large as 1.5 Million people!
Show Director Johnny Thompson performs under the stage name The Great Tomsoni, Within the magician community, Tomsoni is considered a virtuoso, widely known as a mentor and teacher of magic, and a creator of tricks, as opposed to simply a performer. He has worked behind the scenes with magicians such as Penn and Teller, Lance Burton, and Criss Angel. In 1999, he was awarded one of the highest honors in the magician community, a Masters Fellowship with the Academy of Magical Arts. Dave and Denise are thrilled to have the expertise of such a high caliber director, producer to bring a fresh new look to their magical variety show.
Technical Staff member Cory Martin is stagehand and magic assistant. Cory is Lighting director for the RED-A Tribute by Tom Mullica and The Fair Family Show. He has been with Hamner Barber Variety Show for two years. Cory is also a licensed falconer working with many majestic birds of prey. Bonnie Frerking is our lead spot light operator. She has worked with Hamner Barber Variety Show for 6 years.
All Hamner Barber Theater front of house staff will be returning. Box office manager Jan Braschler, along with box office staff Brenda Hahne, Marty Hahne, Mike Brown. Concessions manager Jan Hammit, as well as versatile employee team members, Faye Brown, Wanda Scritchfield, and Aaron Costales. Sales and marketing consists of Director of Sales Vance Hebblethwaite, Public Relations Duane Williams, and Group sales Jane Boen.
